The girl fell in love with the country of the mountains, the warm sea, the delicious wine and the food. LADY spoke with Ella about life in Tbilisi. "I came back after Georgia to Belarus – and I was sad"
– I arrived in Georgia in 2016 as a as tourist, with two friends. Before that, they were already in Georgia and were already thinking about staying in this country.
Then I came only for a week. Spent one day in Tbilisi, and the rest of the time at sea – in Batumi. I liked everything, but there was not a strong desire to move. And my friends stayed.
A year later, in August 2017, I went to Georgia for three weeks to get to know the country. Then I visited not only cities, but also mountains and villages. When I came back after my trip to Belarus, I realized that I was very sad and that I was bored. And without Georgia, I will not be able to live anymore.
In Belarus, I stayed a week and I bought a ticket from one side at the end of the month of October. I gave myself a time before the New Year: if I can not find a job, I'll come back. But deep down, I knew that even if I had problems, I would stay here again.
The first month, I was looking for work. In Georgia, it is very difficult to find a workplace, a lot is done by communication. Jobs with jobs work, but not as productive as in Belarus or Europe.
I tried to find a job related to tourism, because I worked in this field in Belarus. But the specificity is that the outbound tourism is developed in Belarus, and the entry-level tourism in Georgia. I did not know so much about the country that I could sell it. Therefore, with tourism, I did not work. At first I found a job as a director in a Russian-owned hotel. And soon I was promoted and transferred to a larger hotel. Now I manage two hotels.
Byelorussians do not need a visa for Georgia. We can be here legally throughout the year. You can work without a residence permit.
"Georgians know how to enjoy life"
– Georgia has learned to appreciate life, to appreciate and appreciate the little things. Here are wonderful people! If you meet them, you know that they are your friends for the rest of your life. They will never leave you. In Georgia, very emotional people, and it seems to me that I have lived more emotions here than in all my life in Belarus.
Georgia has an incredible nature, there are mountains and the sea. When I lived in Belarus, I wanted to travel to other countries. In Georgia, I only want to travel to Georgia
When I went to Georgia, I did not make plans, I had no purpose. Therefore, there was no disappointment either. But there are disadvantages in Georgia. For example, nobody respects the traffic rules. It's like a pedestrian crossing – it's just strips on the asphalt.
Another big problem is the delay. I work as a manager, conduct interviews, invoke different masters. If you agree on a specific moment, it means nothing. A person can come in an hour, two or even the next day. But the more you live here, the more you are relaxed at everything. Georgians live at the moment.
Every morning, I go out on the balcony and I have mountains in front of my eyes. I take a cup of coffee, look at this landscape and understand what a real hello is. I am happy that I live here, and every morning I think I have a wonderful day ahead of me.
"In Tbilisi in the old houses of paid elevators"
In Georgia, my salary is the same as in Minsk. Prices in the shops here, as in Belarus, but cafes and restaurants are cheaper. I can afford to eat safely at home, and it will not be a hole in the budget. Public transport is cheaper, especially a cheap taxi. For a half or two dollars, I can travel almost everywhere in Tbilisi
But the communal is a bit more expensive than in Belarus. In Georgia, there is a big problem of heating: in new houses there is a central one, and in old houses there are gas boilers.
What surprised me most was the ski lifts. In old houses, you go into the elevator, throw a coin in the special box and only after you go there. Climb the stairs, if that you can free. (Laughter.)
"In Georgia, holidays can last 6 hours"
– Georgians love their wine. They even have a special word "supra" (feast), which is inscribed as intangible heritage of UNESCO. Here at every party, there is a toastmaster – a man who spends a feast, toasts. Toasts are a distinct tradition, they must be pronounced in a certain sequence. In Georgia, parties can last 6 hours. And they are not dance songs, but conversations. And you can call the head the next day and say, "I'm sorry, but I have a hangover, I can not come today." You will be understood.
The wine in Georgia is really delicious. And so many species that it is impossible to find anything to your liking.
Georgians add a lot of greenery to the food. Traditional local salad: cucumbers and tomatoes with nuts. There are many different sauces, and every housewife has her own special recipe.
"It is interesting to see how it is when no one touches you and you express your opinion"
It seemed to me that Georgians are a bit negative towards Russia because of history with Abkhazia and Ossetia. Many say that Russia is an occupier. But when the Russians come to rest, the attitude towards them is excellent
Generally, Georgians are only politically active when the problem concerns them. There are often rallies, strikes that concern the problems of life in the country. Recently in Tbilisi, the subway did not work for three days, because the drivers decided that they were not paid enough.
And there was a big rally against local drug policy. This subject does not concern me directly, but I have come down: it's interesting to see how it is when no one touches you and you express your opinion.
"Everyone thinks I've found a Georgian husband"
When you love Georgians, they start bringing you their house wine or tkemali almost the day after they know it. And if you want, they will be very happy.
Everyone in Georgia thinks I moved here because I found a Georgian husband. And when I say that I fell in love with Tbilisi, Georgia, I am very grateful. Georgians love their country madly, know its history well and pbad it on to foreigners.
It is true that Georgians complain that there is a lot of unemployment here. A man does not go to work for a small salary. Better, he will not work at all, but he will sit and play backgammon for days near the entrance.
In Georgia, there is practically no "average salary". There is a big difference between the rich and the poor. But it seems to me that if the Georgian wants it, he will earn money. It's easy to open a case here, a cost-effective tax system, there are no constant checks like ours.
I know that many Georgians want to leave, but come back often. Usually they leave for Germany or France
In Georgia, it is customary: a man works and a woman is engaged in agriculture and children. Of course, not always, but there are still old gender traditions. Perhaps, it is also because Georgians are more religious than Belorussians. A cab driver at the sight of the church will be baptized, pbadengers in the buses too. Georgia is the second country in the world that has embraced Christianity and is considered one of the most religious countries in the world. Here, the principal is not the president, but the patriarch.
When in Georgia they wanted to increase the birth rate, the patriarch promised every third child to baptize personally. They say that Georgians started giving birth to three children. (Smiling.)
It seems to me that I myself have become more religious. If I pbad an important church, I will cross, and if the weather permits, I will enter.
Believers in Georgia are not only old people, but also young people. Therefore, marriage for Georgians is not just a stamp of a pbadport. The essential is to get married. Here are some very small divorce statistics. I think it's so, because often couples are married, but do not sign. And when they diverge, it does not affect the statistics.
I find that Georgian men have a very well-suspended language – they always make you compliments. But, aside from that, women are truly loved and respected. It's wonderful to be friends with them.
