In 2017, the life expectancy at birth in Wallonia was 79.8 years. This means that Belgians could, on average, benefit from 12.8 years of pension.

Last week, the inevitable Bart De Wever had thrown a new pavement in the Belgian pond. He had announced that consideration should be given to raising the legal retirement age. It was based on the life expectancy of the Belgians who will not stop climbing.

So we asked Statbel how many people died in Belgium before celebrating their 67th birthday, the future retirement age.

Result? "From 2008 to 2017, 212,480 people residing in Belgium died before turning 67," says the Belgian statistical office.
