Belgium

Ikea's first extraordinary business council (CEE), following Wednesday's announcement of a worldwide restructuring of the group, was held on Monday. It has been mentioned, in particular … pop-up stores.

At the global level, the brand wants to eliminate 7,500 jobs out of the 160,000 jobs it counts but ultimately to recreate 11,500 jobs. In Belgium, Ikea plans to cut 100 to 120 workstations at Zaventem headquarters (logistics and building management) and in human resources functions.

Virtually no social information was raised during this meeting between management and the unions. "Only a more detailed but theoretical presentation of the restructuring plan has been made. Management retains the same job target to delete ", says Nectaria Saroglou, permanent Setca. No date on which the redundancies will be made has been communicated.

Pop-up stores, outlets and collection points

On the other hand, the management has unveiled some (not yet confirmed) avenues for the future commercial strategy of the Swedish furniture kit brand. "Ikea, which owns its eight stores in Belgium, is thinking of renting or leasing other store concepts: pop-up stores (ephemeral stores, NdlR), outlets (discontinued, NdlR) and collection points for orders placed online ", details Anne-Marie Dierckx, permanent CNE. "These concepts may be to offer a little more personalized services to capture a new clientele", advance Fabrice Jardon, permanent CGSLB.

Ikea pop-up stores have already existed in several countries: France, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, Morocco, United States … Guests can have a cup of coffee or eat a plate of Swedish meatballs. It sells, around a theme (cooking, for example), small items from the Ikea range.

Creating a cluster

At Monday's EWC, the Belgian management also announced the creation of a cluster (a network of companies) based in France and comprising Ikea Belgium, the Netherlands and France.

A new works council is scheduled for December 10th.
