Bottas best morning time in Abu Dhabi

Valtteri Bottas signed the fastest time of the first morning of the Pirelli Trials in Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes driver set a time reference of 1'37 "319, three seconds slower than the pole position achieved at the Grand Prix last Saturday.

The Finn was also the most frequent driver on the track with a total of 46 laps completed on this first part of the day at Yas Marina. He set his best time in the third hour, dislodging Sebastian Vettel from the first place.

Max Verstappen occupies the second place at six tenths of Bottas, ahead of Vettel, while Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg complete the top 5. Note that Vettel caused a red flag following a small run out at the first corner. He was able to regain his stand himself, but repairs were necessary to the incident.

Another red flag was deployed earlier, caused by Pietro Fittipaldi, victim of a technical problem driving the Haas. The Brazilian has not taken the track, while the US team could be in the process of a change of engine.

This morning allowed Kimi Räikkönento take the track for the first time behind the wheel of the Sauber C37. The 2007 World Champion traveled 30 laps and signed the ninth fastest time. The Finn is not the only one to discover his future team this morning because it is also the case of George Russellsixth at the wheel of the Williams.

Lando Norris is driving the McLaren, and Sean Gelael in the tub of the Toro Rosso.

Remember that this day of testing, uninterrupted at lunch time, must allow Pirelli to validate its 2019 tires and takes place with some restrictions for the teams. They can however choose the tires to be tested, and make comparisons between the 2018 and 2019 tires.
