NEWSROOM (ADV) – The AIDS epidemic is tending to stabilize in Gabon, according to a seminar organized by UNAIDS on Monday in Libreville, the capital of Gabon.

The number of people living with the AIDS virus has dropped from 56,000 in 2012-2017 to 47,000 in 2018, said UNAIDS Country Director Françoise Ndayishimiye.

During this same period, the number of newly infected people increased from 3,300 to 3,100, she said.

"The disease has entered a more endemic and stable phase," Ndayishimiye said.

Although relatively rebaduring, these epidemiological parameters still call for the intensification of prevention and the strengthening of management.

"We have evidence that the declines we have are due, at least in part, to prevention," Ndayishimiye added.
