Last week, the member of Parliament George Gilkinet (Ecolo) challenged the Minister of Mobility François Bellot (MR), in charge of the SNCB, to encourage the railway company to introduce reduced rates this Sunday, December 2, day of the march for the climate organized in Brussels. Noting the special offer of the SNCB on the occasion of Black Friday (5 euros round trip throughout Belgium), the MEP felt that the SNCB should do the same for this event to which participants are invited to go by train, bicycle or any other means of soft mobility.
Contacted, François Bellot is seduced by the idea.
"The Minister of Mobility is in favor of SNCB making a discounted ticket to the climate march, as it does for specific events such as 21 July or trade union demonstrations. The necessary change in the transportation mentality that the minister wishes to encourage is part of the philosophy of this type of event. He therefore hopes that SNCB will be as inventive in its marketing as it has been in the context of Black Friday ", says his spokesperson.
The climate march, organized by Climate Express and Coalition Climat, will take place in Brussels on 2 December, the opening day of the 24th Climate Conference in Katowice, Poland.
