Suffering from a kidney problem, a Scottish girl had to undergo a kidney transplant. Nevertheless, the successful operation proved equally fatal because the donor's organs were affected by cancer.
A 49-year-old Scottish girl had kidney disease that required transplantation. Shortly after the successful surgery, she returned to see the doctor who detected abdominal cancer and lymphoma, media reports said.
"I was told that I was too weak for chemotherapy. I've already lost loved ones to cancer and I know what's coming, "she said, quoted by the media.
Shortly after, the woman learned that another patient, who had obtained the liver from the same donor, died shortly after the procedure. The doctors badured him that all the organs were healthy and that they had undergone all necessary examinations.
Still unconvinced, the Scotswoman insisted on additional tests. The results showed that the donor organs contained an aggressive form of cancer.
Even if the contaminated kidney has been removed immediately, the disease has already spread to other organs.
