Severely burned, a firefighter finds himself overnight without strength, without a face, without a future.

Save or perish. This is the motto of the firefighters of Paris. For Franck, it's not a job, it's a vocation. He lives his work with pbadion, limit obsession.

Besides, he is delighted to live in an apartment in the barracks. Nothing surpbades the adrenaline of saving lives. Nothing except the eyes of his wife who looks at him like a hero. He, the gringalet, become a sacred athlete thanks to his steel will.

And then, one day, he applies his motto, he saves a colleague in a warehouse on fire and wakes up, eight weeks of coma later, in a service of burn victims. Without strength, without a face, without a future.

Frédéric Tellier's camera will not let him go. She will dive with him in this daily antiseptic bath, so painful. She will plunge into the emptiness of her existence which, just yesterday, was so full of her exciting job, her adorable twins, her plans for a couple. Today, firefighter, it's over. His daughters are too small to come and see him. His wife is still there, loving, but for how long. And how can one not feel that way of rotting the rest of one's life?

Katell Quillévéré (Repair the living), Thomas Lilti (Field doctor), Jeanne Herry (Pupil) or Frédéric Tellier (Save or perish) do not form a group, have not written a manifesto together and yet, they take the cinema in the same direction, animate a kind of current of documentary fiction.

For two hours, we follow the journey of a man whose life has collapsed brutally, a man immersed in a permanent physical suffering that is nothing compared to what he morally endures. His family, his friends, his hospital universe – combining humanity and technology – can not change anything.

This inner adventure is all the more untenable as it hangs in our noses, our lives are written on sand, at the mercy of an accident, of illness.

A documentary that follows a great burned for two years probably would not show anything else, except that the fiction avoids being transformed into a voyeur, to attend the spectacle of a real couple abused by fate.

The fiction in this story is the actors in which we can project while keeping a distance. Pierre Niney and Anaïs Demoustier are a very nice film couple. And the cinema is always stronger than life because it keeps only the times … strong, to illuminate the parts of shadow.

Production : Frédéric Tellier. Scenario: David Oelhoffen, Frédéric Tellier. With Pierre Niney, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Rottiers, Sami Bouajila … 1h56.
