Last October, an extensive investigation into alleged criminal organization, money-laundering and private corruption spilled over into the world of Belgian football. It was no less than 44 searches that were conducted in Belgium, including a dozen clubs of the elite. Several important figures of our football were arrested such as the agent of players Mogi Bayat, the former manager of Anderlecht Herman Van Holsbeeck, the coach of the Brugge FC Ivan Leko or two referees of first plan.
For the first time since this scandal of great magnitude, Van Holsbeeck spoke in front of the cameras of "Dossiers Tabous", the program of the journalist Christophe Deborsu broadcast Wednesday evening on RTL-TVI. "My lawyers told me that by not speaking, we will begin to believe that we are the big criminals"explained the former manager of Anderlecht.
He said he did not feel good about the scandal. "We can not be good. I am glad that I explained and answered questions from the investigators. But when I see what's happening today, it saddens me like all football fans".
Van Holsbeeck was able to return home the very evening of his arrest. Did he confess things? Did he speak? "That saddens me. I have been tapping for several months. I still had a search at home. And I can tell you that for the family, it's not very gay. I was interrogated for a whole day and finally I was able to go out without being reproached for anything".
"Mogi Bayat is a must in the world of football"
What was his relationship with Mogi Bayat? "I was fired last April. Anderlecht's new management made the first decision that now that Van Holsbeeck has left, Mogi will not be able to enter and what do I see? The first big transfer out of Anderlecht? Uros Spajic to Krasnodar (Russia) for 7 million euros. You know who made the transfer? Mogi Bayat? A few weeks later, I see that there is no solution to remove Lukasz Teodorczyk. We contacted a dozen agents. In two weeks, the Polish striker left for Udinese (Italy) against 3.5 million. You know who made the transfer? Mogi Bayat. He is inescapable in the football world. And those who openly criticize him are often a little frustrated … Mogi is 'me, myself and I'. It's Napoleon. When you come to 40 years, we have a lot of success, when we have a Porsche, a Ferrari, … I already told him 'live happy, live hidden'. It was difficult for Mogi".
"It's my friend. I think that, as his brother Mehdi said, he was the victim of his big mouth".
"Between Mogi and me, there was never anything. He may have tried as much to pay a few less contributions, it may be possible. But rigging matches, I know he never did".
