Despite a heavy defeat in Switzerland, fatal to its qualification for the Final Four of the League of Nations, Belgium will remain alone at the top of the world ranking of FIFA to be published Thursday by the international football body.
During the last international truce, the Red Devils first beat Iceland (2-0) before losing to Lucerne in front of Switzerland (5-2). France, which was one point less than Belgium in the standings of 25 October, lost to the Netherlands (2-0) in the League of Nations before taking the measure of Uruguay (1-0) in friendly.
These results badure the Belgians, third of the Russian World Cup this summer, to remain at the top of the FIFA rankings until April, after the international meetings scheduled for March 2019.
In addition to Belgium and France, the top 5 is completed by Brazil, Croatia and England.
Belgium, which had plunged to 71st place in June 2007, had already held the 1st place from November 2015 to April 2016, while Marc Wilmots was at the head of the selection.
Sunday, the Red Devils will know their opponents for the qualifications of Euro 2020, scheduled from March to November 2019. The Belgians appear in the pot 1 draw, conducted in Dublin. The first two of each of the 10 qualifying groups will qualify directly for the finals.
