Between 2,500, according to the police, and 3,000 people, according to the organizers, formed Thursday a giant chain going from the Parliament to the Walloon Government in Namur. The rally organized by the FGTB aimed to symbolize the 3,500 jobs that are threatened by the reform of Aid to Promotion of Employment (APE), according to the union.
The reform led by the Walloon Minister for Employment, Pierre-Yves Jeholet, should be voted on December 13 in the Walloon Parliament and its text should not be changed. The objective of the FGTB was rather to rebel against its "pbadage in force".
"Our calculations are clear, 3,500 jobs will fall into the water," said Thierry Bodson, secretary general of the FGTB in Wallonia. "At the moment, the employers concerned still do not know the envelope they will have in the future, it is absurd. We are not waiting for anything from this government. "
The giant human chain formed by protesters via the Jambes Bridge was particularly spectacular. Red torches were also lit on both sides of the Meuse.
"We wanted to hit hard to show that we still have a strong ability to mobilize and that we will hold the government to the pants," said Bodson.
This message was also a call for change at the dawn of the next regional elections. Several local politicians were present, such as Eliane Tillieux (PS) or Thierry Warmoes (PTB).
According to the FGTB, despite the measures granted by the Walloon Minister of Employment as a result of its various actions, the EPA reform will lead to the loss of 3,500 jobs.
The exclusion of certain services alone would result in the loss of 1,100 jobs. The criteria for setting 2020 budgets, 500 jobs. And finally, the budget envelope closed and insufficient indexing, 1,400 jobs today and 500 by 2021.
