According to the New York Post, this separation is partly due to Harvey Weinstein's desire to expand his team by securing the services of additional lawyers.

> Weinstein's lawyer again calls for the discontinuation of prosecutions and evokes "police errors"

"I'm out" from the Weinstein record, Ben Brafman told the New York Post. Contacted by AFP, the lawyer did not respond. And his spokesman has neither confirmed nor denied the information.

The New York Post article confirms information published since Monday in other US media, which referred to the departure of Mr. Brafman, but without quoting the lawyer directly.

According to the New York Post, this separation is partly due to Harvey Weinstein's desire to expand his team by securing the services of additional lawyers.

New York star Ben Brafman, 70, has already successfully defended Dominique Strauss-Kahn in Nafissatou Diallo, but also rapper Jay-Z and producer Sean "Diddy" Combs.

A lawsuit in May?

Since Harvey Weinstein's indictment in May, the lawyer had identified errors in the conduct of the investigation that led to the discontinuation of the prosecution of one of the three alleged victims.

Ben Brafman had also produced in early August a series of messages exchanged between the former Hollywood mogul and another alleged victim after the alleged facts.

These exchanges show, according to the defense, that this woman, who accuses the rape producer, "Seems to recognize the consensual and intimate nature of his relationship with Mr. Weinstein".

Based on the approximations of the investigation, Ben Brafman had played his all-out and asked Judge James Burke to cancel the entire proceedings.

But the magistrate rejected the appeal on December 20, paving the way for a probable trial by Harvey Weinstein.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 7 and the trial could open in May.

Since early October 2017, Harvey Weinstein has been accused of harbadment and badual badault by more than 80 women, including Hollywood stars like Ashley Judd and Angelina Jolie.

The case heard in New York is the only one that resulted in criminal proceedings against the former producer.
