This Monday around 16h, the burgomaster Elio Di Rupo will perform his last act of mayor to pay tribute to Jean-François Willems, killed around the station of Mons in June. A commemorative plaque will be placed at Leopold Square in honor of the 19-year-old.
Jean-François, 19, was killed by several stab wounds last June after an altercation with a man named Ahmed S., quickly identified and arrested. The altercation took place at Leopold Square in Mons, near the bus stops and the railway yard. Jean-François's family wished to pay tribute to him by placing a commemorative plaque on the site. The City of Mons has accepted. The plaque will be installed place Leopold. A special ceremony will take place this Monday, December 3 at 16h. When the work of the new station is completed, a slab engraved in his memory will be installed permanently.
"The bourgmestre contacted us several times after the death of Jean-François. He also came at his funeral, he did it very modestly. "says a relative. "The idea of creating a plaque in memory of Jean-François came from his two twins. "She did not want us to forget. This kind of act must never happen again. "Jean-François just left too early, he was too kind … We recognize happiness at the noise it makes when it goes away. Mine, when he left, he made a hell of a stir ", emphasizes our interlocutor.
