The Conmebol has decided after the violent incidents of Saturday in Buenos Aires: the final return of Copa Libertadores River Plate-Boca Juniors will be played on neutral ground, out of Argentina.

"It is more cautious that the game is not played (in Argentina) .The final will be played on December 8 or 9, in a place to be defined by the administration of the Conmebol", announced in a statement posted on twitter the body that manages South American football.

The decision is subject to the decision of the Disciplinary Court of Conmebol, seized by Boca Juniors, who claims a victory on green carpet, said the President of the Confederation of South American Football (Conmebol) Alejandro Dominguez.

"The conditions are not met for the final to be played in Argentina," said the president of Conmebol, at a press conference in Asuncion, headquarters of the organization.

In the finals on November 10, played in a fiery atmosphere, the 100% Argentinian duel ended in a draw (2-2).

Tuesday's decision will not satisfy either of the two teams who are tearing themselves apart from the goals of the world.

Boca wants the Cup on green carpet

Boca Juniors claims the green carpet cut before the Conmebol Discipline Court, saying River Plate should be punished for the incidents.

River Plate, the other big club of Buenos Aires, wanted to play the final return in its Monumental stadium.

Scheduled initially Saturday at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, the duel between the two big rivals, the most titled clubs of Argentina, was postponed after two players of Boca Juniors were injured, while the bus carrying them was attacked at Stones, bottles and tear gas by Ultra River Plate supporters.

While the majority of the 60,000 spectators had taken place in the stadium, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the Conmebol first delayed the meeting twice, before postponing it to Sunday.

But one of the players injured, the captain of Boca Pablo Perez, being unable to play Sunday, the final of the tournament of the most prestigious clubs of South America was then postponed.

The announcement of the Conmebol came after a meeting between the presidents of Conmebol, Boca and River, Tuesday at the headquarters of the Confederation.

"We do not agree to play a match until the court has decided, I do not agree that a date has been fixed", has reacted since Asuncion the president of Boca Juniors, Daniel Angelici.

He said that if he did not agree with the decision, he would appeal to the Appeal Court of Conmebol, or even to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Meanwhile, the Conmebol has opened a case against River Plate for Saturday's incidents, facts that are also the subject of a judicial investigation in Argentina.

The winner of the Copa Libertadores is qualified for the World Club Championship to be held in the United Arab Emirates. The South American team's entry is scheduled for December 18th.

The Conmebol has received in recent days several proposals for the organization of the match outside Argentina: Asuncion, Genoa (Italy) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil).

The 2018 edition is the last final to be played in home and away matches. From 2019, the final will be played on a single match, like the Champions League.
