Some everyday medications like Spasfon, cough syrups or sleeping pills could cost the French more from January 2019, indicates The Parisian this Monday, November 26th. This is the consequence of a reform decided in 2017 that will come into effect.

Dispensing fees for the pharmacists involved
The new device is going modify the "dispensing fees" collected since 2015 by pharmacists when selling certain drugs. This sum is supposed to compensate for the decrease in their margin, caused by the forced drop in the price of reimbursable drugs, the paper said.
It rises today to 1.02 euro for each sale of a prescribed medicine. It is not the patient who supports this amount but the Health Insurance for two thirds, the last third being the responsibility of complementary health.
From January, these "dispensing fees" will no longer be fixed. They should increase and vary depending on the medication. Result: the patient could be put to use. "The Health Insurance confirmed it to us during a meeting of work on November 14: if their contracts do not provide for reimbursement of drugs at 15% or 30%, additional health will not participate in the fees of the pharmacist", says the Parisian Philippe Gaertner, President of the FSPF (Federation of Pharmaceutical Syndicates of France).

Refuse the refund to pay less?
To illustrate this reform, the newspaper takes the example of Stilnox, a sleeping pill. In 2020, when the reform will be fully implemented, without taking charge of its complementary health, the patient will have to pay his box 4.31 euros instead of 2.63 euros currently, a rise of 64% of the price.
In some cases, the patient will have any interest in not requesting the reimbursement of the prescribed medication. Indeed, "dispensing fees" will only be triggered in the event of a refund claim. The patient will then pay his box of sleeping pills 3.09 euros.
