This morning, a farmers' demonstration is taking place in Namur. Many tractors block traffic.
At the initiative of the Walloon Federation of Agriculture (FWA), about 150 farmers, according to the police, have been demonstrating since 11:00 Tuesday in front of the cabinet of the competent Walloon Minister, René Collin, in Namur. They are asking for a drastic reduction in the wild boar population and their representatives are currently being received by the minister.
Mr Collin announced yesterday a reduction in the number of wild boars in Wallonia by 50% over two years. Farmers want them to reach 80%. They fear the consequences of African swine fever and recall that wild boars have always caused a lot of damage on their farms with big economic consequences.
The Inter-Environment Wallonia-Brussels Federation and representatives of the forest industry also joined the action.
