AT On the occasion of World AIDS Day, which coincides with December 1st, a free and rapid screening campaign will be launched next week by the Health and Population Directorate across all institutions. of health of the wilaya, we learned, yesterday, the Dr Boukhari, head of the prevention department.
"Health facilities will be equipped with rapid test kits (blood tests) and saliva screening kits.
Once people are screened, if they are positive, they are referred to medical care and treatment, and if they are negative, to prevention actions ", he added. The same leader invites the population to get closer to the health structures to get tested.
The action falls within the framework of the orientations of the national strategy of fight against AIDS and the program targeting in particular young people in order to reduce the risks of attack.
Indeed, despite the prenuptial examinations, required for some years now of the bride and groom, including full serology, candidates for early detection of AIDS do not jostle at the doors of AIDS screening centers and other badually transmitted diseases, which are nevertheless ready to receive, anonymously and free of charge, each individual who wants to be tested.
Our interlocutor pointed out that, since the beginning of this year, 139 new AIDS cases have been reported, compared to 145 cases during the same period of the previous year. Among the new cases, there were 6 children this year compared to 10 cases in 2017.
It should be noted that despite the awareness campaigns, new cases of AIDS are identified each year.
The Department of Infectious Diseases of the Oran University Hospital Center which cares for people with AIDS in the west and south-west of the country, in the absence of specialized referral centers in hospitals in other wilayas, is currently monitoring nearly 4,000 AIDS.
