The DH spent two days testing the quality of our air in Brussels and the largest cities in Wallonia thanks to a portable particle detector. Coffee terrace, public park, office, metro, car … The situation is particularly alarming in many places tested. And not always those that we can think of at first sight. Reportage.
On March 12th, our colleagues from Parisien tested the air quality in the French capital. The result is alarming. Their test, conducted all over Paris could be achieved through a portable particle sensor connected to a smartphone application. Coffee terrace, public park, office, metro, car … We reiterated the Parisian exercise on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April in Brussels and in the six largest cities of Wallonia (Namur, Liège, Mons, Charleroi, Wavre and Tournai). The situation is particularly alarming in many places tested. And not always in those that we can think of at first sight.
For the record, Brussels activates its action threshold (or alert – orange flag) when the PM2.5 concentration exceeds 51 (at 70) μg / m3 two days in a row, when the PM10 concentration exceeds 71 (at 100 ) μg / m3 and / or when the NO2 concentration exceeds 151 (up to 200) μg / m3. A second intervention threshold is planned when the PM2.5 concentrations exceed 71 μg / m3, the PM10 concentrations exceed 101 μg / m3 and the NO2 concentrations exceed 201 μg / m3. This ultimate intervention threshold has never been activated in Brussels. It involves, among other things, the ban on driving any thermal vehicle in the Brussels region.
