It has become in a few weeks the new attraction of Central Park: a beautiful Mandarin duck, come from no one knows where, has come to mingle with the more ordinary mallards, to the delight of walkers and paparazzi.

This duck from Asia, with its impressive multicolored plumage, appeared in the famous New York Park on a beautiful October day, revealed by a video shared on Twitter by a rare bird lover, David Barrett (@BirdCentralPark) .

Since then, the comings and goings of this magnificent copy of the family Anatidae are followed closely on the social networks, and he even had his moment of glory in the New York Times.

Nobody knows how he got there: some people initially thought he had escaped from a zoo but the zoos in the city have declined. Others have speculated that he may have been abandoned by the home to which he belonged, even if that would imply that he came from beyond New York since the laws of the US financial capital forbid keeping a duck at home .

This mystery did nothing but feed the popularity palmiped. As well as his occasional fugues, which led him to disappear sometimes for two weeks in a row. He was spotted, with his black ring on the right leg, several times in the state of New Jersey, on the other side of the East River, without knowing whether he had swam or stolen the 'other side.

That's how he became a star, nicknamed "Mandarin Patinkin", in tribute to the actor Mandy Patinkin ( 'The Princess Bride"), by the New York news website Gothamist.

On Tuesday, the Mandarin basked under the paparazzi's gaze on the pond south-east of Central Park, a few stones throw from the Plaza's grand hotel, munching on the breadcrumbs he was eating. curious.
