New quack for solar panels: the owners in the blur, who will pay?

Who will pay the tax on photovoltaic panels? The uncertainty is prolonged by a few months. The Walloon Minister of Energy wanted to exempt from this tax those who have already installed panels and those who planned to do so this year. But yesterday, in the Parliament of Wallonia, his text could not be voted. PS and Cdh returned him to the Council of State. The decision is therefore postponed to the next Walloon majority after the elections. With what consequences, for the Walloon portfolio? The first consequence is that nobody finally knows what he will pay. A priori, on January 1st, new tariffs will come into application. They are set by the Cwape, the gendarme of Walloon energy. These tariffs provide for an average fee of 300 to 400 euros per year, to be applied to all holders of photovoltaic panels because they use the distribution network when they inject their electricity produced by their panels.

What is the majority after the elections?

As a first step, the Walloon Minister of Energy wanted this tax to apply only to those who installed signs after 1 July. Then this date was postponed and would have been exonerated all those who installed signs before December 31st. Finally, his text was not voted yesterday. It will not be under this legislature. The decision is postponed to the next government, after the elections, without knowing which parties will form the future majority. If this new majority decides nothing, all those who have signs will pay this tax. Including those who rushed to install their solar production before July 1 and thinking of avoiding the tax. If the future coalition decides to exempt the current panel owners, the burden of the tax will be borne by both those who will install panels in the future.
