Orange hands down the mobile operator of the year award

After the nPerf reviews that have dedicated the quality of the Orange network on both fixed and mobile, it is the turn of the Qosi research company to distinguish the incumbent operator in its study on the quality of experience in 2018. For the second time in a row, it awarded Orange the Mobile Operator of the Year award.

Marc Blanchet, Orange's technical and information system director, receives the award for best mobile operator of the year 2018 from Fabien Renaudineau, CEO of Qosi.

37 Mbps average speed with Orange

We start with the most popular indicator of Internet users: the downstream flow. Orange averages 36.8 Mbit / s, compared with 27.5 for Bouygues Telecom, 24.2 for SFR and 16.6 for Free Mobile.

Regarding the upload, the hierarchy remains almost the same: 10.4 Mbit / s for Orange, 8.8 Mbit / s for SFR, 8.4 for Bouygues Telecom and 5.2 for Free Mobile. Regarding web browsing, streaming or voice communications, the incumbent operator achieves the best performance. Bouygues Telecom and SFR do better despite everything when it comes to sending SMS. As for web access in rail transport, Bouygues Telecom is on par with Orange.

However, these figures show great disparities according to the population density: the incumbent operator thus displays a downward flow of 54.7 Mbit / s in large cities and only 17.5 Mbit / s in rural areas.

41% of municipalities have a bit rate below 10 Mbit / s

The stall is stronger for all operators in these territories. In this regard, Qosi wanted to add a new indicator at the scale of the municipality. We learn that 41% of municipalities have a majority of data rates less than 10 Mbit / s, and 8% of municipalities, a bit rate of less than 0.5 Mbit / s without the possibility of using data. If we focus on the region, we find that Burgundy-Franche Comté and New Aquitaine total 49% of municipalities below 10 Mbit / s.

But Bouygues Telecom stands out by achieving good performances in these neglected territories. The operator has the best rates in rural communes of the 4 operators, with 20.7 Mbit / s on average. And with him, only 40% of municipalities in France fall to less than 10 Mbit / s against 66% at Free, 47% at Orange and 42% at SFR (see the first table).

In conclusion, we can say that the situation has improved significantly compared to last year. Even Orange, who comes first, has not rested on its laurels and has continued to progress. The New Deal concluded more than a year ago between the government and mobile operators should push back a little more white and gray areas. The goal remains to bring 4G for all French by 2020.
