Orange launches a new type of pack for those who want to cut dad's TV: are they interesting?

Intended for cord-cutters, the new proposal Orange Love Duo combines mobile subscription and Internet (unlimited) at home. A dual play pack unpublished on the Belgian telecom market.

Until this morning, the only possibility, as an Orange customer, to have an unlimited fixed Internet connection at home, was to go through the Orange Love pack (digital TV + residential Internet + mobile subscription). A solution that the former Mobistar has been selling for a little over two years and that has allowed him to attract 200,000 customers. But there is something new, learns La DH en primeur: Orange attacks, as announced for several months, frontally to the "cord-cutters" who no longer consider interactive digital television necessary by widening the doors of entry to his unlimited internet offer at home.

In concrete terms, the new formula bears the sweet name of Orange Love Duo. Its principle is simple: it allows to combine a mobile subscription with an Internet connection (unlimited) at home. Without dad's digital TV, so. And with, locked in its viewfinder, young adults who are content with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and Disney + tomorrow or Apple +.

Seen and teased by Orange even for many weeks, this new offer does not allow, at least for the moment, to subscribe to an isolated residential Internet connection, in stand-alone. It is not impossible that this offer will enrich the portfolio of the challenger operator in the future, however. Nevertheless, until now, no operator has marketed dual-play offer mobile subscription + Internet at home. These products are of course available everywhere, but in separate entities, not combined.

Attractive prices, without being stunning

Specifically, Love Duo claims 34 € per month more mobile subscribers Colibri, Dauphin and Koala for the residential Internet connection. This includes an unlimited download volume at a maximum speed (Thero) of 100 Mbps. The offer really takes its thickness, and especially its interest for Aigle customers, the unlimited mobile subscription (calls, SMS and data, at least up to the threshold of 20 Gb monthly consumption). In these, the Internet connection at home claims only 24 € more per month instead of 34 €. In other words, Orange Love Duo Eagle allows you to have a mobile connection (on your smartphone) and fixed (at home in wired and Wi-Fi) unlimited for 64 € per month. An access price not necessarily stunning, but still 15 € cheaper than the offer Orange Love Trio, which includes digital television.

As a reminder, Orange operates, for its fixed residential offerings, the networks of Voo cable operators (in Wallonia and part of Brussels) and Telenet (in Flanders, and the other part of Brussels).

It's a bit of Orange's motto: "If you do not want to pay for a service you do not use, then Love offers are made for you," says Michaël Trabbia, CEO. At Orange, customers have the opportunity to choose a pack that is really adapted to their needs: with or without television, with or without a fixed telephone, with a little data, a lot, or even 100% unlimited. With Love Duo, the cord-cutters finally have the alternative they've been waiting for, "says the CEO, perhaps not at the price they expected, but we can not say that the market is not moving …

If we compare Orange Love Duo Eagle (64 € / month) to what the competition offers, the Orange proposal has a head start:

  • In Proximus, the equivalent of Orange Love Duo (64 €) costs € 92.99 per month (Proximus XL Unlimited + Internet Maxi).
  • In Vooit will be necessary to pay $ 73.99. the closest fixed Internet connection costs € 49.99 per month (although it is faster than that offered by Orange). To which must be added 24 € of mobile subscription, for a forfat which is not unlimited in data, since capped at 10 Gb monthly.
  • In Scarlet, we are at 65 €but for less complete services. The Internet connection that comes closest to what Orange offers is charged € 32 per month (but it is limited to a volume of 500 Gb and a speed of 50 Mbps), while the mobile subscription "Hot" bill 33 € per month, but "content" to deliver a data volume of 13 GB per month.
  • In Telenetwe will ask € 97 for the equivalent (excluding promo): 54 € for the Internet connection Fiber 200 (which has a theoretical speed twice as fast) and 43 € for the mobile subscription Kong Unlimited.
  • However, there is an alternative that is perfectly in line with Orange Love Duo; and which is even more advantageous: the combination Edpnet VDSL XL (€ 34.95 per month) and the subscription of Mobile Vikings, which offers unlimited all for € 29 per month. We then arrive at € 63.95 per month for an equivalent proposal … except that it offers the fixed telephony as a bonus!
