The satisfaction of SNCB customers must rise. And that means above all the improvement of the punctuality of the trains which is under pressure at the moment.
Nearly half of the delays (45%) are due to external factors such as the presence of people on the tracks, vandalism and theft of cables, the railway company said on Tuesday in reaction to the article by Tijd and Echo on the dissatisfaction of SNCB customers. The company also suffers from chronic under-investment in infrastructure, wharves and rolling stock.
It accounts for 30% of the delays in the first half of the year caused by equipment problems, while the remaining 25% of delays are due to defects in the infrastructure.
"All this must be handled step by step in a structured, rigorous and orderly way, so SNCB is investing in new train equipment, modernizing the reception infrastructure and communicating with pbadengers," the company says.
"But these efforts are partly thwarted by the many works qu'Infrabel performs on the network and provides for the next few years, forcing the SNCB to deflect certain trains from December 9, to delay or to remove. SNCB is always informed late of the organization of these works. If the company was consulted earlier, it could react better to limit the impact of inconvenience for the traveler, "concludes the company.
