The startup Rivian attracted attention by unveiling a first all-electric pickup Rivian R1T while Elon Musk, boss of Tesla, regularly evokes a similar project without having yet formalized it.
For the Los Angeles auto show, it's the electric SUV Rivian R1S which is presented. We find ourselves with a huge vehicle with 7 seats using the same design and the same platform "skateboard" with a battery pack in the center and 4 electric motors at each end.
It promises as the pickup a 0-60 mph in 3 seconds and can achieve autonomy up to 410 miles (660 kilometers) thanks to a battery of 180 kWh. The general characteristics are almost identical to those of the R1T.
There is no shortage of this model that the "Gear Tunnel", a storage space present on the pickup and crossing the vehicle from side to side. The cabin is also similar to that of the pickup with various screens for the console and sensors for a semi-autonomous Level 3.
Prices will start over $ 70,000 and the availability of the Rivian R1S is announced for end of 2020, as for the pickup. But beyond the announcement, it remains to be seen whether Rivian will implement a production, even by holding a former Mitsubishi site in the United States.
