France is still slightly below the epidemic threshold for gastroenteritis, but large disparities persist across the territories. Four departments are well above the fateful figure of the epidemic.
For the week of November 19th to 25th: "The incidence rate of cases of acute diarrhea seen in general medical consultation was estimated at 156 cases per 100,000 inhabitants below the epidemic threshold", said the Sentinel network. The average number of cases thus increases compared to the previous week (142) but remains below the epidemic threshold set for this week at 162 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Once again, the Hauts-de-France are the most affected with an incidence rate of 267 cases observed per 100,000 inhabitants. Then come Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (246 cases), the Grand Est region (197) and to a lesser extent the Pays de la Loire (177).
The threshold of the epidemic could therefore be reached at the national level the following week, even if the famous peak is usually recorded during the first two weeks of January.
The total number of cases can vary greatly from one year to the next. The French health authorities refer to 2009-2010, during which 21 million patients were identified. Every winter, the number of consultations varies between 700,000 and 3,7 million in France.
Note that if we are still far from talking about an epidemic for chickenpox, the disease also strikes France in a very heterogeneous way with 33 cases recorded per 100,000 inhabitants in the PACA region, none in the Pays de la Loire or in Corsica .
