Traces of faeces were found on all the new touch screens installed in McDonald's in England.

A survey conducted by the Metro newspaper, in partnership with the microbiology department of the Metropolitan University of London, demonstrated, through samples taken from eight touch screens that control the dishes, that they were all covered with faecal coliforms. These are fecal bacteria found in the digestive tract of humans and animals.

"
We were all surprised by the amount of intestinal and faecal bacteria present on touchscreen machines. These cause the type of infections that people contract in hospitalssaid Dr. Paul Matewele, master lecturer at the University of London.

Customers, who trust their predecessors, order their food on the touch screen, then pick it up at the counter and do not think about washing their hands in the meantime.

"
Listeria is another rare bacterium that we were shocked to find on machines because it can be very contagious and problematic for people whose immune systems are weakened.", added Paul Matewele.

A spokesman for fast food was keen to comment on the results of this survey: "
Our self-control screens are
frequently
cleaned throughout the day. All our restaurants also offer guests the opportunity to wash their hands before eating."
