Ben Simmons has agreed to extend his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers to a maximum of $ 170 million over five years.
Rich Paul, the Simmons agent, confirmed the contract to Shams Charania of athletics and stadium on Monday. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN announced for the first time that his team was planning to propose a maximum extension in early July.
The choice of the first round of 2016, No. 1, was in the final year of his contract with the recruits and was to make $ 8.1 million in 2019-2020.
Simmons has revealed himself to be a defining player on the field, winning the 2017-18 rookie title before winning his first selection of stars in 2018-2019. He continually shows the ability to fill the stats sheet, averaging 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game this season.
Russell Westbrook, LeBron James and Nikola Jokic (Basketball Reference) were the only other players to have averaged 16-8-7 last year.
His figures during his first two seasons put him with an even more exclusive company:

Ben Simmons is one of only three players in NBA history to score more than 1,000 points, more than 1,000 rebounds and more than 1,000 passes in his first two seasons in the league.
The other two players of this elite club are:
Oscar Roberston and LeBron James.
Complete production helped him to rank 16th in the NBA in value compared to last season's replacement player and 11th in his first year, leading the 76ers both seasons.
Of course, he still has some progress to make, especially with his shot after scoring three goals to zero in 17 attempts. His inconsistency was also a major problem in the playoffs. He averaged only 11.6 points and 4.9 assists per game in the second-round loss to the Toronto Raptors in the playoffs.
Simmons will have to be more aggressive towards his elite opponents if he wants to help Philadelphia take a step forward.
However, the latest agreement reinforces the core of the 76ers, with Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Al Horford, all under contract for at least the next four years.
While the team now owes a lot to this quartet, it will be worth it if Philadelphia can report a title to the NBA.
