Bernice Betty Hovey, 94, of Fort Dodge, died on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at her home.
A service honoring the life of Bernice will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Reverend Emily Sauer as officiant. Interment to follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitations will take place one hour before the funeral at the church. Arrangements are made by Gunderson Funeral and Cremation Services.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Mary Michael of Fort Dodge, her stepdaughter Chris Hovey of South Sioux City; grandchildren Charles, Andrew (Shawna), Ashley, Matthew (Dez), Sarah (Noah); great-grandchildren Taya, Trevor, Emma, Bo, Airo; and brother-in-law Roland McMillie.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Sherman, sons Bruce and Roger, son-in-law David Michael, granddaughter Jessica Michael, brother Donald Sampson, and sisters Doris McMillie and Deloris Klevgard.
Bernice, daughter of Clayton and Alphena (Rick) Sampson, was born on June 14, 1927 in Mondovi, WI. She grew up and graduated from Gilmanton High School. She married Sherman Hovey on August 17, 1947. They made Badger their home for many years. She has been very active in the Lutheran Church in Badger, as a Sunday school teacher, league counselor, and with women’s groups. She worked in the Badger School cafeteria for several years. After her husband passed away, she moved to Fort Dodge where she worked at Fort Dodge Animal Health for 19 years in the office and was also a switchboard operator at Clement Auto & Truck. She was currently a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and doing crafts.
