First-year congressman Stephanie Bice stepped up her criticism of President Joe Biden and Democratic leaders on Tuesday, saying their policies had slowed economic recovery and denigrating a women’s health bill that , according to her, is nothing less than “abortion on demand”.
Rep. Bice, (R) OK-5, joined Republican House Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), Conference Vice President Mike Johnson (R-CA) and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI ) for the Republican Caucus Weekly press conference Tuesday morning. Bice, who was elected president of the Republican class Freshman by her peers in December, has already attended press conferences on the leaders, but this was her first invitation to speak.
Le Bice began by targeting the economy.
“The Biden administration claims the United States is thriving, but the numbers don’t lie,” Bice said. “Inflation is now at its highest level since 2008 and those numbers have increased every month since Joe Biden’s presidency.”
Leading economists, along with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, have said the inflation the country is experiencing is to be expected as the supply chain caused by the pandemic lags behind compared to the growing demand from an increasingly vaccinated population who feel safe to go out again.
Le Bice also lambasted Democrats for trying to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which she said would pave the way for unrestricted abortion.
“I will vote no, along with many of my Republican colleagues,” said Bice. “Legislation takes precedence over past and future pro-life laws, both at the federal and state levels. If enacted, it would create a national standard to allow abortion for any reason at any stage of pregnancy, up to birth.
The White House has approved legislation, which would guarantee access to abortion in response to restrictive Texas law that bans most abortions in the state.
