Black Friday for COVID-19 virus in Oneida County

Oneida County experienced another difficult day of COVID-19 on Friday, with a spike in hospitalizations and new deaths.

Two people have died from COVID-19, one of whom was a resident in a nursing home, and hospitalizations are approaching an all-time high with a total of 71 county patients hospitalized with the virus. There are 54 county residents at MVHS, 11 at the Rome Memorial, and six hospitalized outside the county. 17 of the hospitalized patients are nursing home residents.

Another record was set on Friday, with the total number of active positive cases reaching 1,355, the highest number since the pandemic began in March. The county also announced 185 new positive cases in the past two days as there was no new tally of positive cases as of Thanksgiving.

Today’s case totals do not include new Friday test results, as they only include data from November 25 through midnight November 26.

Herkimer County has announced 10 new positive cases of COVID, according to their health department.

    • 185 new positive cases, 4664 * in total (* Upon further investigation, 4 positive cases were removed from the previous total. 2 are nursing home residents.)
    • 1,355 active positive cases.
    • 2 new deaths related to COVID-19 (1 related to a nursing home), 144 in total.
    • 65 patients are hospitalized in Oneida County. (54 at MVHS.11 at the Rome Memorial)
    • 17 are residents of retirement homes.
    • 6 patients are hospitalized outside the county.
    • 3,165 positive cases were resolved.
    • 286,965 negative results in total.
    • 291,629 tests performed in total.
    • 1,355 in compulsory segregation.
    • 1,265 in mandatory quarantine.
