A fireball that crossed the sky on Sunday night was seen by residents of New York City, Connecticut and other parts of the northeast.
The American Meteor Society says it received at least 210 reports from people who said they saw a fireball in the sky around 7:22 p.m.
“It might be a long time, but did anyone else in Troy just see the huge blue meteor that just crossed the sky,” wrote Jess Ayotte, a Times Union employee, on Twitter Sunday night.
“Maybe I’m dramatic, but this stuff was huge,” she later wrote.
Ayotte was not alone.
The Meteor Company says most of the reported sightings were from New York and Connecticut, but they also heard from witnesses in Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont , West Virginia and Quebec.

The meteor traveled east to west and disappeared from visibility somewhere south of Poughkeepsie, the company said.
Meteors usually burn as they descend through the atmosphere. There is no indication that Sunday’s object hit the ground.
Sunday’s fireball arrived a week before the Leonid meteor shower began its show in the night sky. Astronomers say this year’s meteor shower should be more visible on November 17, but meteors should be identifiable in the days immediately before and after.
