Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus shares ‘best possible news’ about his stage 4 lymphoma

Blink-182 Marc Hoppus shared some great news with fans on Monday, write on twitter that the chemotherapy he is undergoing for lymphoma seems to be working.

“The tests show that the chemo works! Hoppus wrote. “I still have months of treatment ahead of me, but this is the best news possible. I am so grateful and confused and also sick from last week’s chemo. But the poison that the doctors inject into me and the good thoughts and wishes of the people around me destroy this cancer. I’ll just keep fighting.

Last month, Blink-182 bassist and co-singer Hoppus revealed that he had been undergoing chemotherapy for three months. Hoppus recently answered questions and spoke to affected fans in a Twitch stream reposted to YouTube on July 13, by Vulture.

The 49-year-old rocker said on Twitch that he was diagnosed with “diffuse large B-cell stage 4-A lymphoma” in late April. He explained that it means “it’s got into enough parts of my body that I’m in stage 4, which is – I think it’s as high as it can be.”

Hoppus said on the Twitch stream that he will soon find out if “chemotherapy is working at all” for him. If so, he said, he will have three more laps left.

He noted that it would be “the best of times” for him. But he didn’t water down his experience, saying “chemotherapy sucks so much.”

Each cycle of treatment, he said, left him feeling completely different.

“The first chemo, I felt like a zombie fell on an electric fence,” he said. “I felt like I couldn’t move, but at the same time I felt like I was being shocked or electrocuted.”

Hoppus also described the experience of the “chemotherapy brain,” saying he has problems with short-term memory and sometimes has trouble remembering things like song titles and people’s names. “I’m forgetting things I should be on guard.”

Still, he was showing a lot of hope.

He said his mother “beat cancer three times twice for breast cancer and once for the same cancer as me.

The rocker has also managed to maintain a good sense of humor. He joked about wearing the “absolute worst toupee” since losing his hair.

And when a fan asked him how likely he was to turn into Walter White from “Breaking Bad,” Hoppus replied curtly: “I hope I get Walter White’s ‘cancer in full remission’ part, not Walter White’s” drugmaker “part.”
