A 62-year-old man was discovered on Sunday desperately clinging to the hull of his capsized boat in waters off the coast of Florida – about 24 hours after being reported lost at sea, officials said.

The crew aboard the container ship Angeles spotted Stuart Bee around 11 a.m., about 86 miles off Cape Canaveral, holding his 32-foot vessel, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The agency had been looking for signs of the boater since he was reported missing on Saturday morning.

Bee had left Cape Marina on Friday, but the person who reported him missing was concerned that he had not returned the next day and usually did not stay at sea overnight.

Photos released by the Coast Guard show Bee swimming away from her sinking ship and toward an orange lifebuoy. Another image showed the drenched boater climbing aboard the container ship.

His condition was not immediately known.

Captain Mark Vlaun, the Jacksonville Area Commander of the Coast Guard, thanked everyone involved in the rescue mission.

“Saving lives at sea is our highest calling,” Vlaun said in a statement. “It’s a truly incredible result that demonstrates the bond between all sailors and our community.”
