WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) – The body of a Virginia hiker was found in a steep and rocky area near the Continental Divide after she went missing in Glacier National Park, according to the National Park Service.
Jennifer Lee Coleman, 34, of Richmond, Va., Never returned from what felt like a solo hike. Up to 50 people have joined the search over rough terrain after his vehicle was found parked atop Logan Pass, officials said. A park service statement says the cause of his death has not been determined. Strong winds on Sunday prevented the recovery of his body from the air.
Her parents, Hal and Sharon Coleman, are leaders of the AWARE Foundation, which advocates for missing persons. A post on their Twitter account on Sunday said they had no words to describe the grief after receiving the worst news possible.
Coleman’s personal effects had been found at his campsite at West Glacier KOA Campground by sheriff’s assistants performing a welfare check, Glacier spokesperson Brandy Burke said. Researchers began looking for Coleman on Wednesday.
