Boeing Co. said it was investigating a racial incident on its 787 Dreamliner campus in North Charleston.

A presser foot made of nylon was found suspended Thursday in the back building of the factory. There was no note or other material with the noose.

"I am saddened and angered by the on-site discovery of a symbol loaded with racial motives," said Brad Zaback, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, in a statement distributed to employees. "Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of Boeing's enduring values, and racism and cowardly acts have absolutely no place in society and especially in our society."

Zaback said the company had "launched a thorough investigation and that it would take all appropriate and necessary steps" against those responsible for the incident.
