British government sources believe bosses will be able to use health and safety regulations to fire workers who don’t get vaccinated.
Nadhim Zahawi, the government minister responsible for vaccines, suggested in December that “restaurants, bars, cinemas and other places” might end up requiring some sort of vaccine passport or other documents before providing services, and the tycoon anti-Brexit Charlie Mullins recently said he would introduce a “no vaccine, no job” policy, laying off workers who don’t get vaccinated.
The Boris Johnson administration, including Zahawi, has since rejected any suggestion to make vaccinations mandatory, saying “this is not the way we do things in the UK”. and stated that they “did not intend to introduce a vaccination passport – although in fact they are already testing one.
Civil liberty activists, however, have expressed concern that if the government allows companies to refuse to serve unvaccinated workers and fire unvaccinated workers, aided by the very existence of supported technically non-mandatory virus passes. by the government, that people will not have real choice in the matter – and a Telegraph report which shows officials believe the layoffs, at least, would be legal and do little to allay their concerns.

“If someone works in an environment where people haven’t been vaccinated, it becomes a risk to public health,” a government source said in comments to Telegraph.
“Health and safety laws say you have to protect other people at work, and when it comes to protecting other people, the argument grows stronger,” the source continued.
“If there is clear evidence that vaccines prevent transmission, the next step is to ensure that more and more people take the vaccine.
“If people have allergies or other reasons for not getting bitten, then of course they should be exempt, but where it’s an unwarranted fear, we have to help people put themselves in the right place.”
The Telegraph reported that some Tory MPs are concerned that bosses will be allowed to lay off staff in an already difficult economic climate – but pointed out that “a disproportionate percentage of black, Asian and ethnic minority people ( BAME) are against getting stung ”as a reason, no concern for personal and civil liberties.
Research indicates that so-called BAME people are much more reluctant than whites to be vaccinated, with the UK household longitudinal study indicating that around 72% of blacks are unlikely to be subjected to injections in January.
