While Balasaheb Thackeray's performance in Nawazuddin Siddiqui's trailer earned him rave reviews on social media platforms, the trailer also struggled with dialogue and sensitive moments. A day after the launch of the trailer, actor Siddharth of Rang De Basanti takes it to its authors for spreading hatred in the name of entertainment.

Siddharth consulted Twitter and, in a series of tweets, pointed out that some dialogue, which is repeated in the trailer, is a "hate speech against the South Indians". He went on to say that in a propaganda film like this, producers sell hatred with "romance and heroism" and showed no solidarity with the many South Indians who contributed to Mumbai in different ways.

"Nawazuddin repeated" Uthao lungi bajao pungi " (lifts the lungi and * $ $ him) in the movie #Thackeray. It is clear that the hate speech against the South Indians … In a movie glorifying the person who said it! Are you planning to make money with this propaganda? Stop selling hatred! Scary stuff!

In the following tweets, he explained that while a Muslim UP actor playing the role of a revered Marathi leader is a poetic justice, the fact that policymakers have conveniently used such dialogues in the trailer of Marathi without subtitling is like selling hatred. Siddharth also pointed out that the line was specifically reserved for the Marathi version of the trailer and was not posted in the Hindi trailer.

Poetic justice is when a Muslim actor from the UP has to play the role of the revered marathi bigot in a propaganda film.

"The trailer of #Thackeray, #Marathi, perfectly subtitled. So much hate sold with so much romance and heroism (music, roaring tigers, applause, jingoism). No solidarity shown towards millions of South Indians and immigrants who make the wealth of #Mumbai. #HappyElections! "Lut his tweet.
