Selebi-Phikwe police confirmed the death of a man who allegedly hanged himself after an attempted rape and murder.
Tidimalo Selelo, 28, who had been released on bail for alleged murder in 2018, allegedly attempted to rape a woman who was with her boyfriend in Lebakeng, a livestock post near Sefophe.
The commander of the Botshabelo Police Station, Gothusamang Badubi, confirmed the incident and noted that the woman Selelo had attempted to rape and her boyfriend had reported the clash.
"They said he was wielding an ax charge, demanding that he be given the woman because he wanted to rape her and kill her." Fortunately, the boyfriend had a button in his jacket and he quickly managed to take it and managed to defend the woman against her attacker, "revealed Badubi.
She added that Selelo later escaped and that the police raided and found her rotting body two days later, hanging on a tree.
According to the police, the accused did not leave any suicide note.
