Huawei's smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2019 rose more than 50%, while Samsung and especially the iPhone lost significantly. This is shown by the numbers of badysts.

There is bad news for all smartphone manufacturers: fewer devices are sold worldwide. According to IDC badysts, these figures fell 6.6% in the first quarter of 2019. Instead of 332.7 million as in the first three months of 2018, only 310.8 million units been sold in 2019.

But not all manufacturers are among the losers. On the contrary: Huawei was able to sell instead of 39.3 million euros, against 59.1 million for the previous year. This is an increase of 50.3%. And slowly, the Chinese manufacturer is getting closer to the first place, which is also the goal.

Samsung can still badert itself, with 71.9 million sales. However, these figures mean a decrease of 8.1% compared to the previous year. In terms of market share, Samsung now stands at 23.1%, Huawei has gone from 11.8% to 19%.

Apple sells more than 30% less iPhones

The big loser is the number 3 in the market, namely Apple. The iPhone is currently going through a difficult period in the market, despite price reductions in China and interesting commercial discounts in many other markets, including Switzerland.

Instead of 15.7% market share in the same period last year (and then after second place), Apple now holds 11.7% in the first quarter of 2019. The numbers have fallen by more than 30 %, from 52.2 million to 36.4 million.

And behind, three other Chinese manufacturers are going from the front – with varying degrees of success. Xiaomi in fourth place also lost about 10.2%, up from 25 million in the first three months of the year. Especially in the domestic market, it is not so round. However, Xiaomi still holds an 8% market share and is closer than ever to Apple.

Three Chinese behind Apple

Vivo, meanwhile, is off to a good start in China and India and already sells 23.2 million devices, an increase of 24%. Thus, Vivo is open to sister brand Oppo, which now wants to conquer Switzerland. Swisscom has a first 5G smartphone from the manufacturer, which is still unknown to us.

Oppo sold 23.1 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2019 and ranks fifth with Vivo due to fault tolerance of 0.1 million euros.
