The Air Force Wing of Botswana Defense Force (BDF) lost nine aircraft and six military in air accidents

Recent BDF aircraft losses include a CF-5 fighter plane (out of 15) that crashed and killed the pilot during a training mission to Gaborone on April 27 and a CASA 212-300 Aviocar transport plane that crashed shortly after takeoff from Thebephatshwa air base in February 2017. The three crew members died in the accident.
The C212 was later replaced by a C212-400 from the occasion, bought in the United States. It went into service earlier this year.
