SYDNEY Sekeramayi, once considered the de facto choice of the G40 for President Robert Mugabe's successor, badured President Emmerson Mnangagwa of his support for the upcoming elections
. The former defense minister was considered a dark horse in Zanu PF's succession fights, but seemed to lack the courage to express his desires for high-level work. But when it seemed like Zanu PF's power brokers did not want a successor without a liberation war, Sekeramayi's name was thrown into the ring by Jonathan Moyo, a G40 exile.
Sekeramayi fought the liberation war and his size seemed to balance that of Mnangagwa
The former minister did little to keep it away.
Infact, he seemed to appreciate the moment when Grace pressed Mugabe. to name his successor, who was widely regarded as the strongman of East Mashonaland.
The November coup that drove Mugabe disrupted the G40's grand plan and left Sekeramayi with the huge burden of getting out of the mess. Although he was unable to do so at that time, he did so much during President Mnangagwa's rally in Marondera where he was invited to make some concluding remarks.
Sekeramayi seized the moment to join Mnangagwa and Mnangagwa. his group of Lacoste Team candidates.
"Let's vote for President Emmerson Mnangagwa Let's be united, work together peacefully and support our leadership in the July 30 elections," he said, "I want to badure you, Your Excellency, we are going to support all the candidates of the party vying for positions within the party in this election.We will vote for each of them.You must trust this province. "
He added:" Mr. President you have informed us that in this new dispensation, Zimbabwe must now prosper, we know that you are always fulfilling your promises, and there will be no more queues for the banks after July 30. 19659002] "On this day, the province will vote for Zanu PF in power."
Mnangagwa dropped Sekeramayi as Minister of Defense When the Zanu PF succession battles were at their peak last year , Sekeramayi denounced the meadow National War Veterans President Christopher Mutsvangwa and his group of supporters who have provocatively rallied behind a takeover of Mnangagwa. In 1965, Sekeramayi invited Zanu PF supporters and war veterans to ignore the war veterans group, preferring a loyal splinter group to the G40.
