President Masisi to Facilitate Roundtable
BY LAME MODISE After two years, this year's National Business Conference (NBC) will take place from September 9 to 11 in Francistown.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to head the 15th edition of the biennial event, which invites the business community, investors and policymakers to discuss reforms to make Botswana internationally competitive.
The three-day conference will be held under the theme "Breakthrough to Botswana's Income: The Role of the Private Sector in Tracking the Way", and seeks to identify the economic pathways to propel 39, an upper-middle income to a high-income economy
with participants, entitled "A Conversation with the President", to give his opinion on the promotion of private sector development.
The delegates of the NBC will also discuss Vision 2036-focused issues, to determine whether Botswana's economy will continue to depend on diamonds or whether it is making serious concerted progress towards diversification
Participants will also see how the nation can become more competitive productive and efficient.
The question is whether Botswana should adopt island and introspective strategies or open up to investors and to visitors, a situation that could potentially create a dynamic economy while facilitating the integration of society into the global economy.
