Justin "Bobby", the Hills star, warned that the side effects of fame could "tear you apart as a human being".
Brescia is part of the cast of The Hills: New Beginnings, a sequel to the popular reality show broadcast from 2006 to 2010.
The show followed the glamorous life of young men and women in Los Angeles and the follow-up will bring together old favorites and new faces.
This is a debate about whether the stars of reality TV, Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalbaditis, have died.
Brescia called the deaths "really tragic" and said the celebrities needed a "good group" of friends around them.
Speaking at the New Beginnings season premiere in Los Angeles, he told The Press Association: "In this sector, you have to have really hard skin, thick skin.
"You have to take things as they come and try to form a good group around you because the media and their presentation can tear you apart as a human being.
"Stay at home and pray if you need it. Get in and understand what you really want.
Brescia added: "It's not that it annoys you, because it's not everything, it's just a part of something."
Brescia is joined on New Beginnings by stars such as Spencer and Heidi Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner and Whitney Port.
The actress Mischa Barton and Brandon Thomas Lee, son of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, are among the new faces. Lauren Conrad, the main star of the original series, does not participate.
Brescia said that he would have generally said no to a return, but "this time, I thought it was a good idea, I thought it was the right time for the make".
He added that the "new dynamic" of the new cast members has attracted him, as has the lure of seeing old friends.
The Hills was one of the first examples of reality TV and Brescia thinks that the changes that have occurred over the last decade mean that the genre is now "inescapable".
He added, "It's pretty raw now. You can not really get away with it and editing will not save your bad. What you see is what you will get. "
The Hills: New Beginnings will premiere on June 25 at 8 pm on MTV.
