India and China held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg on Thursday to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.
Chinese Foreign Minister Vijay Gokhale said Modi also discussed plans to hold several high-level meetings for the rest of the year.
"The two leaders reaffirmed their willingness to give the necessary directives to their armies to improve communications between them and maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas," Gokhale said in a statement to the media at the end of the bilateral meeting, which he described as "very productive".
The Indian statement is very similar to the understanding obtained at the informal summit in Wuhan in April, where the two leaders had "ordered" their armed forces to perform "confidence-building measures".
The official said the two sides had firmed nd defense and security talks in August. The talks would be held in the context of the first anniversary of the Doklam stalemate.

Discussions also focused on urea export opportunities. The official said that an Indian trade delegation will visit China from August 1 to 2 to explore export opportunities for soybeans, non-Basmati rice and pharmaceuticals.
