JOHANNESBURG – Increasing the depth of the team will be of paramount importance for the Netball Proteas team at the Diamond Challenge in Seshego, Limpopo, between 27 November and 1 December.
National coach Norma Plummer built a strong core, but the team broke away from moments when some of the pillars were unavailable due to injury.
The Diamond Challenge would allow him to deepen his actions with the team of the South African president, who will also participate in the five-day competition.
This will be crucial for the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool, in just eight months.
South African captain Bongi Msomi stressed the importance of giving some of the country's promising talents a taste of international netball.
"I am very happy for the platform that the Diamond Challenge will act as for all young players, it is very important that they be exposed to third country teams," Msomi said.
The Proteas will face Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the President XII team led by Jessica Khomo.

Plummer said the competition of the week would provide South Africa with the perfect platform to eliminate more players likely to be in the national team.
"We need to develop the next group of athletes with international experience because they are spearheading Proteas and in case of injury, President XII will give us alternative options," Plummer said.
"We will respect all the teams we play in the Diamond Challenge and we will do our best to win these games with confidence."
The Proteas will seek to return to victory after a mediocre performance of the Quad series involving Australia, New Zealand and England.
They suffered two heavy defeats against Australia and New Zealand before bouncing back with a strong performance against England in their last game of the series.
They lost 17 points against the Australian Diamonds before suffering a defeat of 24 goals against New Zealand.
The Proteas will seek to strengthen their strong performance against England, where they lost only three points.
The team will be strengthened by the return of Erin Burger, who has been one of the pillars of the team in recent years.
Meanwhile, the South African South African shooting sensation Lenize Potgieter will celebrate a special comeback in her 50th match for the Proteas against Namibia today.
"To be honest, as a kid who grew up there, I would never have thought of playing a day for the national team," Potgieter said. "I did not think I had a chance. I had the impression that no one would notice a girl from Polokwane. There is a lot of talent here.
"It will be so special to play my 50th place in my hometown, something I would not have expected. I have spent so many hours of my life practicing on the courts here.
