Opening hours should be extended for busy entry points, covering pre-holiday movements, the holiday season and the reopening of schools.
The Department of the Interior is also expected to deploy an additional 425 people in the most active ports.
"We urge all travelers to and from South Africa to ensure that all their travel documents are used in a manner that avoids unnecessary delays at ports, including pbadports, visas, health certificates, specified goods permits, plants and animals, vehicle insurance and authorized bank cross-border documents for vehicles.
