South African rugby team wins gold at Africa Youth Games – Xinhua

ALGER, July 21 (Xinhua) – The South African rugby team on Saturday won the gold medal of the African Youth Games in Algeria beating Namibia in the last men's match of the stadium July 5th in Algiers.

The seven men from South Africa pbaded Mauritius in the 46-0 semi-finals, before easily grabbing the gold medal against Namibia 32 at 12.

The Namibians reached the final after winning the semifinals against Burkina Faso 43-7. ] The bronze medal returns to Mauritius, as they managed to win third place against Burkina Faso 28 to 12.

Algeria could not do better than take the 5th place after a victory from 10 to 5 against Cote d Ivoire. Ivory

Senegal managed to take 7th place after a difficult victory against Morocco (24-7), while Tunisia finished the tournament in 9th place with a superb victory of 49-0 against Benin.

The Youth Games kicked off on Wednesday in the Algerian capital of Algiers, athletes from 54 countries and regions of Africa participate in 30 sports disciplines until July 28.

The games are also qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games that Argentina is expected to host next October.

The first African Youth Games were held in 2010 in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, while the second edition was hosted by Gaborone of Botswana in 2014.
