Throughout the summer, Dumbarton House The Georgetown Museum will host a range of interesting and educational activities. events that connect neighbors and visitors to its important past. Dumbarton at Dusk, a series of free events after school hours with music, instant shows, food and drinks.
"Our museum tells the story of what life was like in our nation's capital back in the old days," said Scott Scholz, deputy director and curator. "By inviting the community to visit our museum and grounds with interesting and unique programming, we are providing a new way to experience and experience the history of our city and country."
Dumbarton House, a federal-style house built in 1799, and its stories survive today thanks to the foresight and commitment of a group of women who refused to let his story die – the National Society of Colonial Ladies of America – whose seat is also in Dumbarton. House. Dumbarton House helps to capture the untold story of the birth and maturation of Washington, DC, and the nation through its museums, gardens and programming.
Summer events are an important way for Dumbarton House to raise awareness of the history of the period, the house, the city and the country. Here are some highlights of the calendar:
- June-August – Every Sunday 10am – Yoga. Enjoy yoga clbades in the gardens of Dumbarton House. Free
- May 25 12h-14h – Walking tour: In-TREE guing Georgetown. Beginning in the gardens of Dumbarton House, the tour explores the trees lining the streets of Georgetown. $ 20
- June 11 19:30 – 21:00 – Chamber music concert (free)
- June 12-14 – 6 pm-9pm – Picnic Theater Company presents: The Great Gatsby. Picnic in this famous animation show by F. Scott Fitzgerald, in the Roaring Twenties. $ 15 in advance.
- June 20th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm – Dumbarton at dusk. Experience Dumbarton House in a new light with live music, cash bar, light refreshments and more. Free
- June 29 12h-14h – Walking tour: Georgetown Undercover. Investigate the underground corners of Georgetown where secret activities have taken place. $ 20
- July – Every Wednesday from 7 pm to 11 pm – Jane Austen Film Festival. Take a blanket and watch Jane Austen's timeless love stories under the stars in the historic Dumbarton House Garden. $ 6
- July 18th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm – Dumbarton at dusk. Experience Dumbarton House in a new light with live music, cash bar, light refreshments and more. Free
- July 20th from 10am to 3pm – 8th edition of the annual festival of archeology. Dedicated to the archeology, history and preservation of the DC area, this family-friendly and entertaining event features archaeologists, simulations of excavations, crafts, food and entertainments. artifacts printed in 3D. Free
- July 29 12h-14h – Walking Tour: Georgetown After Dark. In 1962, DC legalized strong alcohol for the first time since 1917. Discover the evolution of Georgetown's vibrant nightlife. $ 20
- August 24-25 10h-15h – Dolley Days. To mark Dolley Madison stops at Dumbarton House On August 24, 1814, during the Washington Fire, enjoy free admission, historic lawn games and ice cream! Special guided and self-guided tours offered. Free

Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Kreeger Museum on June 1st

Join The Kreeger Museum celebrating a quarter century of art, architecture and music.
Enjoy delicious food and drinks, live jazz and chat with contemporary artists in our beautiful building designed by Philip Johnson and in Sculpture Garden on Saturday, June 1st, 2019.
The party is from 18:30 to 21:30. The Kreeger Museum is located at 2401 Foxhall Road NW.

David and Carmen Kreeger enriched their lives and those of others through their love of the arts. In keeping with their vision, the Kreeger Museum's mission is to share art, architecture and music.
This event raises funds to support the museum's educational programming. We are grateful for the support of all donors who share our goal of reaching the entire community of Washington, DC. During the 2018-2019 school year, 80% of schools that participated in our education programs received Title I funding.

Oliver Lee Jackson paints at the NGA

the National Gallery of Art (NGA) is organizing an exhibition of Oliver Lee Jackson paintings in the East building, Mezzanine up to September 15, 2019.
American painter, engraver and sculptor Oliver Lee Jackson (born in 1935) has created a complex work that masterfully combines visual influences ranging from Renaissance to Modernism to the principles of rhythm and improvisation derived from his study of African cultures and American jazz.
Oliver Lee Jackson: recent paintings presents 18 paintings created in the last 15 years, many of which will be on public display for the first time. Jackson's often large-scale paintings combine figurative body elements pointing, kneeling, drawing and playing instruments to colorful abstract compositions and vigorously worked surfaces.
Each painting creates a space and a world of its own, captivating viewers and challenging them to spend time with fascinating works. Born in St. Louis, Jackson taught at California State University in Sacramento for many years. He lives and works in Oakland, California.

Charles Hinman Structures at the Kreeger Museum

The Kreeger Museum present Charles Hinman: Structures, 1965-2014, opening from April 18, 2019 to July 31, 2019.
Charles Hinman is a New York-based abstract painter who launched three-dimensional canvases from the 1960s. This is the first museum exhibition of Hinman's works in the Washington area and the first investigation in more than 30 years. Hinman is best known for his compositions that emerge from the wall in a collection of multicolored and handcrafted planes, thus expanding the conventional space of the canvas. At the invitation of Danielle O. Steen, the exhibition offers a look at 50 years of innovative work by the artist.

Charles Hinman: Structures, 1965-2014 brings together historical paintings from the 1960s while presenting objects that shed new light on Hinman's extensive and permanent studio practice. The exhibition includes painted canvases, molded paper reliefs and other experimental works of art. The exhibition begins with the artist's innovative paintings of the 1960s and 1970s, including Sails, 1965, from the Kreeger Museum's collection. The exhibition brings together Sails with three works from the Hirshhorn Museum and the Sculpture Garden, all exhibited in Hinman's solo exhibition in 1965 at the Richard Feigen Gallery in New York. The exhibition then follows Hinman's career over the following decades, from monumental and monochromatic paintings to textiles, prints and rarely-exposed drawings.

Award-winning Tony and Pulitzer creative team presents world's first musical Dave, adapted from the Oscar nominated film. Written by Gary Ross, Dave will be carried out from From July 13 to August 19, 2018 at the Kreeger Theater in Stadium arena.
Dave tells the story of Dave Kovic, a high school teacher (and the presidency look-alike), who is hired by the secret service as a replacement for the commander-in-chief. When the president gets sick in less than "presidential" circumstances, Dave is put in the oval office to avoid a national scandal and must find a way to win the trust and the love of the American people … and the First Lady .
