The UDC expels ill-intentioned members

On July 12, 2018, Duma Boko, President of the UDC, wrote to the Registrar of Societies to inform him of the amendment of the UDC constitution after the Congress of Boipuso Hall.

The members of the UDC are: Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and Botswana People's Party (BPP). It was at this historic meeting that delegates decided to amend its constitution.

In this new document, the National Convention or NEC may also suspend or expel the member of the group for failing to attend more than two consecutive CEN meetings without acceptable excuse to CEN.

The NEC may also suspend or expel the member for failure to pay his membership fees to a group. However, such suspension or expulsion imposed by the NEC shall only have effect if CEN has informed the Affiliate in writing of the reasons for the suspension or expulsion and has granted the affiliate permission to present his case to CEN.

Again, the NEC can not impose a suspension or expulsion unless the affiliate has been informed of its intention to appeal to the Executive Secretary within 30 days of the decision.

The appeal must be made to the National Congress and / or the Extraordinary Congress, whichever comes first and the decision of the Congress will be final and binding.

The constitution

also states that the inaugural president of the UDC, being the person who holds the position of president before, or at the time of the adoption of this constitution, will lead the party in general elections from 2019 and will be his presidential candidate in these elections as well as the president of the state when taking power in 2019.

The successive presidents of the UDC will be democratically elected to the congress of l 39; ; UDC. The national congress elects people to the national executive positions among the members of the group.

President, Vice-President, National President, Treasurer General, Secretary for Communications and Advertising, Secretary for Gender Affairs, Secretary for International Affairs, Secretary for Youth Affairs and one member from each of the contracting parties.

The NEC will remain in office for a period of four years until the next election. With the presentation of the new constitution, the old constitution registered by the Registrar of Societies on August 23, 2012 for the sole purpose of allowing the UDC to participate in the 2014 general elections and subsequent elections as single political party, is repealed.
