Legend

One of the rarest bottles in the collection – and the oldest – is a Buchanan whiskey dating back to 1897

The largest private collection of Scotch Whiskey in the world has secured a new 10-year loan for its public presentation in Edinburgh.

More than 1.5 million people have visited the Diageo Claive Vidiz collection since its first exposure to the Scotch Whiskey Experience on the Royal Mile in 2009.

The 3,384 bottles were ambaded by Brazilian businessman Claive Vidiz.

One of the rarest bottles is Buchanan's whiskey dating back to 1897.

The Scotch Whiskey Experience is the repository of the Scottish whiskey collection Diageo Claive Vidiz since its arrival in 2009, after its acquisition by Diageo.

Christine McCafferty, chief archivist of Diageo, said: "The Diageo Claive Vidiz collection is particularly eclectic, with brands from all sectors ranging from extremely rare bottles to daily drams from previous years.

"This really gives visitors a fascinating glimpse of our history of whiskey.

"Tourism in Scottish whiskey is a huge growth opportunity for Scotland and we are pleased to see that our collection will continue to be one of the crown jewels of Scottish tourism in whiskey."

Susan Morrison, Executive Director of the Scotch Whiskey Experience, is pleased with the agreement. She stated that it was a privilege to see "the surprise and pleasure feasting the faces of each of our visitors when they first enter the collection chest".
